China Plate began as an organisation for developing and nurturing artists and ideas - this remains at the heart of what we do.

We run a range of different development programmes some of which are directly aimed at making new work and some which are aimed at developing theatre makers and companies.

We are currently commissioning new work with Warwick Arts Centre through two strands, this_is_tomorrow and Triggered@Warwick, and with The New Wolsey and our PULSE / Spring Festivals Commission.

Non-product related streams:

Great new work often comes from surprising places and we try, when we can, to create development opportunities for theatre makers that are not related to specific projects. This is most clearly seen in our flagship Darkroom programme and our producer training workshops for early career artists: The Optimists.
